WHO I AM
Rory Varrato, Ph.D., is a philosopher, an educator, and a Psychoanalytic Candidate at the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis & Psychology.
Rory is currently President and Executive Director of the Erich Fromm Society of North America (EFSNA). He is also Chair of EFSNA's Conference Committee, in which capacity he is organizing the Society's Second Biennial Conference, to be held at Columbia University from October 8-10, 2026.
In 2025, Rory graduated from the Philosophy and Education Program at Teachers College, Columbia University in the City of New York, as well as the Scholars Program at the Western New England Institute for Psychoanalysis in New Haven, CT.
Rory co-founded and served as the first spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion NYC, and his interdisciplinary research focuses broadly on clinical, educational, philosophical, and political interventions for ameliorating psychoterratic illnesses and fostering sustainability in the Anthropocene.
